services / what IT really costs

What does your IT department really cost your small business? Not just the payroll numbers, the benefit packages or the signing bonuses, but what do they do for you? Are they up to speed on every single piece of technology that your company needs? Do they have top level access to industry giants to help you with all of your projects? Are you getting recommendations from them with the best solution for your business, or the one that is best for them? Do they have the experience of continuously supporting a vast array of networks and systems that give them a macro level view of what's going on in technology? Do they do so much work with small businesses that they can come to the table with business sense, or is it just techno-babble?

Tough questions to ask for sure, but the answers can very profoundly impact your business. Managing technology is a very complicated process for a company of any size, but especially a small business. Resources are scarce in every small business and you have to make sure that every dollar counts. At some point there will come a time when your technology needs can no longer be served internally by staff who are already dedicated to another purpose. So what do you do? For too many companies the answer it to start their own in house IT department, and that can be a dangerous decision.

First and foremost you have to be able to communicate with your IT personnel. We don't mean be able to have a conversation or plan a meeting, when we say communicate we mean that you both need to speak a common language. Too often projects, no matter what size, never reach their full potential because IT didn't understand what the suits wanted and the management team didn't thoroughly understand the capabilities of their own IT staff. At the end of the day you need atleast two people in your IT deparment, someone who can understand your business and its technical needs and someone who lives and breathes technology, but can you really afford all of that overhead?

Here at Innotion we believe that you should get exactly what you need, excatly when you need it at a price you can afford.
